The new Archaeological Museum of Chania, designed by architect Theofanis Bobotis and partners, is located in the suburb of Chalepa, the most important historic district of Chania after the Venetian urban core. The permanent exhibition presents the archaeological riches of the Chania regional unit. Over the centuries, from the prehistoric settlements to the cities of the historical era, ancient objects, reconstructions and digital media highlight the social and administrative organisation, religion, war, commerce and the daily lives of people who lived in ancient times, and their attitude towards death. In the gallery on the upper floor are exhibited numerous objects from the Konstantinos, Marika and Kyriakos Mitsotakis Collection, ranging from the 4th millennium BC to the 3rd century AD.
